About the Item

French Directoire-Empire period window bench, the scrolled ends carved with overlapping leaf scales, each end panel carved in relief with crossed cornucopias above openwork panels carved with central cameo medallions framed by crossed torches and other classical emblems. Later ivory painted surface. Seat reupholstered in light blue velvet c. 1940-60 by New York interior decorating and upholstery firm Doris Dessauer.
