About the Item

A handsome and palatially scaled Italian 19th century Neo-Classical st. white Carrara marble bench. This most impressive garden bench is raised on scrolled and fluted pawed legs above white Carrara marble mottled plinths, while accented with acanthus leaves. The thick and wide rectangular seat displays an impressive and most detailed foliate border, while flanked by the scrolled and fluted arms featuring lattice designed side panels. At the center of the back support is a stunning medallion of Minerva, depicted classically with her armor and helmet. To each side of the medallion are wonderfully decorative recessed panels of cherubs playing, with the left depicting cherubs rolling a barrel amidst grape vines, and cherubs playing musical instruments to the right. The back support is adorned with a large scale white Carrara marble reserve of a central palmette flanked by scrolled designs and foliage. Wonderful proportions and extremely decorative.
