This charming 19th-century Venetian bench is a vibrant example of Italian folk artistry, featuring an elaborately hand-painted backrest adorned with neoclassical motifs. Floral garlands, urns, and scrolling foliage frame a central basket of flowers beneath red drapery and gilded fringe, all rendered in richly saturated tones of ochre, terracotta, and verdigris. The bench itself is constructed from wood with a simple box form seat and pegged stretcher base, contrasting beautifully with the ornate painted decoration above. Decorative turned finials with blue accents complete the piece, which was likely intended for an entryway or bedroom.
