About the Item

Elegant, Timeless Pair of French Mid-century, Modern neoclassical, hand made gilt wrought iron benches or stools in the style of Raymond Subes, France, 1930. The pieces are exquisitely detailed with a Curile, X frame leg design reminiscent of classic Greco-Roman work, yet set in a sober, modern context with minimal adornment. The legs cross brace and delicately interlace inside each other with sensuous curves and are finished with round gilt iron finials. The feet end in sabots framed by thin, linear iron moldings. Finally, the pieces have generous size where anyone can comfortably sit and are finished in an off white muslin fabric. Raymond Subes was the foremost designer / ironworker in France during the 1930 period. His designs embraced French Art Deco, Modern and Neoclassical aesthetics forging a style that was uniquely trend setting.
