About the Item
Functional and sleek, these benches are exemplars of a pure, industrial, mid-century aesthetic. They come from the architectural studio of Thierry Despont (1948 - 2023), which played integral roles in the restoration of the Statue of Liberty, re-imagining of the Ritz in Paris, and designing the interiors of the Getty Center—and for its notable private clients like Bill Gates and Calvin Klein. Despont was an avid, omnivorous, and—above all—imaginative collector. Throughout his life, he acquired furniture and objects from very different periods and in a broad array of styles, relishing the unexpected dialogues juxtaposing works and complementary pieces made among themselves.
