About the Item

19th century, pair of French lacquered and giltwood armchairs Measurements: cm H 98 x W 62 x D 65, seat H 44 cm This delightful pair of armchairs, in lacquered and gilded wood, was made in France between the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The bergère model of the armchair is characterized by a rather low shape, therefore with fairly short legs, with the armrests slightly apart, comfortably padded for the entire extension of the wall bars and armrests and equipped with a large mobile cushion. The wooden carvings that decorate the armrests, the legs and the band under the seat reflect the taste of Louis XVI that spread in the second half of the eighteenth century with some mention of the Empire style of the early nineteenth century. The decorations are geometric and a palm in green lacquer accords the backrest and the armrests that end with a column element that goes to rest on the seat. The legs, which originate from a quadrangular pattern with a golden semi sphere, are truncated cone-shaped, carved with geometric elements of classic taste. These armchairs are perfectly usable and their shape is characterized by a comfortable and enveloping seat. They can be presented in pairs, next to sofas or on the sides of a console or a chest of drawers, which can be inserted in salons, studios, entrances and even in a bedroom. They can also be used as fireplace armchairs.
