About the Item

Rare set of 6 chairs mod. 7388 designed by Osvaldo Borsani for ABV Arredamenti Borsani Varedo in 1951. Bentwood frame, velvet seats. Excellent condition, restored, maker's mark. Extensively documented in the bibliography by G. Bosoni, Osvaldo Borsani, architect, designer, entrepreneur, p. 365, Skira, 2018. Osvaldo Borsani began working at a very young age in the family furniture-making business. In 1933 he participated in the Fifth Milan Triennale with the design for the "Casa Minima," which was awarded a silver medal. In the postwar period, after graduating from the Polytechnic, he forged friendship ties with numerous artists including Lucio Fontana, Agenore Fabbri, Aligi Sassu, Roberto Crippa, Fausto Melotti, and Arnaldo Pomodoro, together with whom he produced important works of art in interior design and architecture. In 1953, together with his brother Fulgenzio, he founded Tecno, the major project he would work on all his life to develop mass production as opposed to design production. His earliest industrial design works are the P40 variable trim armchair (1953) and the D70 inverted seat sofa. From 1968 is the Graphis office system (signed together with Eugenio Gerli and spread around the world in a million copies) thanks to which Tecno becomes a major world producer of office design. At the end of the 1960s, Osvaldo Borsani, together with Marco Fantoni and Valeria Borsani, created the Tecno Project Center for the conception of new products, the management of major interior architecture works, the experimentation of new technologies, and the strategies and tools of corporate communication. During the same period, Borsani opened up to design for large communities and to contributions from outside designers.
