About the Item
Designed by French-born Michel Arnoult in the late 1950s, this armchair exemplifies the ingenuity of Brazilian mid-century modern design. Produced for the Alagoas Collection by Forene S.A. Móveis do Nordeste in Brazil, these chairs embody Arnoult’s innovative approach to furniture: combining functionality, beauty, and the emerging flat-pack concept that would influence generations of designers. Arnoult’s work is celebrated for making high-quality design accessible and practical.
Each chair features a striking frame crafted from rare imbuia wood, prized for its rich, dark tones and natural luster. The seat and back are formed from thick, saddle-grade caramel leather slings, stitched for durability and comfort. The interplay between organic materials and streamlined construction creates an elegant silhouette, while the patina of the leather adds warmth and character. Their blend of tropical materials and streamlined construction has made them enduring icons, sought after for their historical significance and timeless appeal.
