About the Item

An antique carved wood Victorian bergère chair, circa 1900. Upholstery is newer, featuring a peacock feather motif. Belle Époque sensibilities. Upholstery showcases tones of coral, mauve, and turquoise. Signs of wear include scuffing and crazing to the wood. Pick up in LA or we ship worldwide. This chair hails from the 2021 - 2023 project “Daylight Studio / Dark Room Studio” which was exhibited internationally in Los Angeles, Switzerland, France and the UK. Paul Mpagi Sepuya (b. 1982, San Bernardino, CA) is a Los Angeles-based artist working in photography. Sepuya’s work is in the permanent collections museums like the Getty and LACMA, SFMOMA, MoMA, the Whitney and thee Guggenheim, the Studio Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Tate Modern and Victoria Albert Museum, and among others. Solo museum exhibitions include Fotomuseum Amsterdam, Deichtorhallen PHOXXI in Hamburg, and museum surveys at Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Nottingham Contemporary in the UK and an upcoming exhibition at Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland.
