Antique French Sleigh Back Second Empire circa 1852 Mahogany Chairs Period Pair

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely pair of period Second Empire Sleigh back circa 1852 French mahogany chairs with gold ormolu Lion legs and original upholstery A really rare pair in very desirable condition throughout, the upholstery is period correct silk, it’s very distressed as you can see but still exists, I can naturally have them reupholstered should the new owner wish, we can keep the original upholstery under of course The detail is simply stunning, the gold gilt Lion heads flanked by wings sit at the top of each leg, the bases are the lion paws, the top back is decorated with floral foliage and centred with a laurel leaf, you don’t get much more French than that! The backs have large Armorial crests, I’m not sure which family they came from but they must have been very important In terms of condition, the frames are solid and free from any cracks or serious damage, they have normal patina marks in the form of the odd scratch or chip, these haven’t been restored other than cleaning and waxing, a French polish would see them come up like new. The seat bases are original and as you can see hand sawn, the nail work is all period and original Dimensions: Height:- 83cm Width:- 51cm Depth:- 50.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
