A pair of architectural form hall chairs in solid oak with high arched and molded backs above carved vine and leaf motifs with raised shields below, carved scroll flourishes to tops and bases of backs, on trapezium seats over downswept saber legs to rear and solid baluster turned legs to front. Handsome, decorative and sturdy.

Rare and important carved mahogany Empire Period armchair attributed to Jacob Desmalter, France circa 1800, of neoclassical form inspired by the design of Percier et Fontaine, architects to the Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, the armrests beautifully carved with leopards heads and torso, the front legs ending in carved paw feet.
