About the Item

Designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Fritz Hansen, this is an original child-sized Series 7 chair, manufactured in Denmark in 2005 during the Republic of Fritz Hansen period. The chair is a scaled interpretation of Jacobsen’s iconic Series 7 (Model 3107), adapted specifically for children while preserving the design’s sculptural clarity and ergonomic intent. The characteristic winged backrest, wide shoulders, and softly curved seat remain instantly recognizable, demonstrating how Jacobsen’s formal language translates seamlessly into reduced proportions. The seat shell is formed from molded plywood, a construction method central to Jacobsen’s mid-century work, here finished in the original Orange lacquer, colour code 530, confirmed by the factory colour label beneath the seat. The warm, saturated tone gives the chair a striking visual presence while remaining true to Fritz Hansen’s early-2000s colour program. The shell is supported by chromed tubular steel legs, slender and lightly reflective, fitted with original-style black synthetic glides. All materials are authentic to the period and consistent with Fritz Hansen’s production standards. This example retains all original labels and markings, including the Republic of Fritz Hansen sticker stating Design: Arne Jacobsen and Made in Denmark 2005, the colour designation label, and the embossed Fritz Hansen mark on the underside of the seat. Condition is good vintage condition, with visible wear consistent with its original use as a child chair. The lacquered surface shows scattered scratches, small paint losses, and edge wear, most notably along the front seat lip. Additional minor marks are present across the shell. These signs of use do not affect the chair structurally: the plywood shell remains sound with no warping, and the chromed steel frame is stable and intact. The wear contributes to the chair’s authenticity and reflects its functional history. Child-sized Series 7 chairs were produced in significantly smaller quantities than the adult version and were primarily intended for institutional settings such as schools and kindergartens. As a result, surviving examples—particularly in strong original colours—are increasingly uncommon. Today, they are valued both as functional children’s furniture and as collectible design objects, appreciated for their sculptural quality, rarity, and clear lineage to one of the most important chair designs of the 20th century.
