About the Item

Designed by Studio Chora, 2024. Biomorphic: ‘bios' meaning life and 'morphe' meaning form. The biomorphic chair is part of an organic series of functional sculptures. Each chair is one-of-a-kind and crafted by hand. Made-to-order with 3-4 week lead-time. This is a second-generation sculpture, made from a durable, waxed limestone plaster. The sculptural dining-height chair has a smooth, lightly water resistant finish. This finish may be cleaned with a wet rag or mild cleaning product, and/or a beeswax to maintain the tactile surface texture and bring out natural color variation in the plaster. Recommended for indoor use only. Description: Waxed white chair. Organic texture and shape forming a figural distortion of the human body. The work constructs a world through a lived and presumed opacity to human experience—one not conforming to an idealized norm, but forming a body in terms of what it can become. Arch., of Studio Chora is a designer based in New Mexico. Trained as an architect, her work focuses on post-Deleuzian philosophy as a critical tool for articulating gender. She handcrafts one-of-a-kind sculptures, drawings, technical and artistic visuals, pneumatic dinner parties, and augmented reality experiences.
