About the Item

The Tomotom chair, designed by Bernard Holdaway for Hull Traders Ltd, was launched on the Ideal Home Exhibition in March 1966 and became an instant Pop Art Classic! Designed as throw-away furniture, they were distributed by mail order. In those days a revolutionary distribution system. It became a succes with young families due to the low cost of production and distribution. Not only a hit in the UK, it became well known in France, Germany, Italy and the USA as well. A tin of paint was included so you could restore or repaint your furniture in a different colour! Tomotom furniture was even on display in the Parisian exhibition of Contemporary-Seating 1925-1968. Production ceased in 1971. Today they are rare and sought after because not many survived and are becoming a true collectors item. The chair we have for sale was shipped to Germany and sold by the German Paidi: a well known distributor for children's furniture (see original label). For the design afficionado (with kid)!
