About the Item
The Trunk Chair continues the designer’s exploration of how leather can be pushed beyond its traditional image and use. Here, the material is sculpted into unexpected, almost surreal forms, challenging our assumptions about what leather “should” look like and how it should behave.
Through this play on transformation, the piece invites a deeper reflection on our comfort with using materials that come from living beings. The Trunk Chair is one of a series of forms and ideas that emerged during the creation of the Mimesis collection and are now being further developed as independent collectible works.
Designer Bio
The designer holds a BA in Industrial Design and, in 1996, founded Estudi Ribaudí, a studio specialising in product, furniture and lighting design. As an interior designer, he has collaborated with well-known fashion brands, bringing a strong material sensitivity and narrative dimension to commercial spaces.
In 2005, he began the restoration of a 19th-century tannery, which now houses his studio and also serves as an exhibition and promotion space for the historic industrial district of Igualada (Spain).
Since 2009, he has been one of the driving forces behind REC.0, an innovative project that activates industrial heritage by installing temporary “pop-up” fashion and design stores in former tanneries, creating a living dialogue between past and present.
