About the Item

This elegant pair of Biedermeier shovel chairs dates from around 1825 and reflects the restrained, architectural clarity characteristic of the early Biedermeier period. Crafted from solid walnut with walnut veneer on a spruce wood carcass, the chairs display a warm, lively grain and finely proportioned lines. The gently curved shovel-shaped backrests and tapered legs create a light, balanced appearance while maintaining excellent stability. Both chairs have been professionally restored with respect for their original material and construction. The wooden surfaces were carefully hand-polished, preserving the natural depth and patina of the walnut. The seats have been newly upholstered and covered with a high-quality striped fabric that complements the historic character without appearing decorative or intrusive. The chairs are structurally sound and comfortable, suitable for both decorative and functional use. Their compact proportions make them ideal as occasional chairs, side chairs in a living room, or as an elegant pair in a bedroom or study. A refined and authentic example of early 19th century Central European Biedermeier furniture. Please note that we currently offer another similar pair of Biedermeier shovel chairs separately.
