About the Item

Elegant pair of mahogany side chairs designed by Johan Rohde, one of Denmark’s most significant designers bridging the Arts Crafts and early modern movements. Beautiful openwork backs with geometric carvings and striped upholstery that can easily be updated. Perfect for refined interiors — from classic Danish design settings to contemporary spaces seeking historical depth. Johan Rohde (1856–1935) was one of the most important figures in early Danish design, known for bridging classical forms with modern simplicity. A key member of Den Frie Udstilling and an early collaborator with Georg Jensen, Rohde’s work spans from furniture to silver, always with a refined sense of proportion and detail. These rare mahogany chairs, with their sculptural backs and clean lines, are a testament to Rohde’s unique ability to combine architectural rigor with decorative grace. Pieces like these reflect the early roots of what would become the internationally celebrated Danish design tradition. A similar chair is illustrated in Johan Rohde – Ars Una, underlining the importance and rarity of this model.
