Egyptian Revival Walnut chair with drop in rush seat and through tenon detailing curved angled back Attributed to Liberty Co, in the style of Christopher Dresser. Circa 1885 Height 73cm. Width 42cm. Depth 49cm Seat Height 34cm A very interesting chair as it takes directly from a chair discovered in Thebes, Egypt acquired by the British Museum 1835. Christopher Dresser adapted designs found in Thebes making his interpretation on many designs, Dresser was head of design at Art Furniture Alliance a shop opened in New Bond Street, London in 1880 -1883, Liberty Co had shares in the company and many designs by Dresser crossed over to Liberty. SEE: British Museum number EA2479 for original A beautifully designed chair, small but comfortable and takes on a sculptural quality found in this “Art Furniture” design period. Set into a corner of a room as an occasional chair it would be as pleasing to look at as to use.
