A rare limited edition side chair, known as "Fauteil Éléphant" or "Elephant Chair", designed in 1985 by French artist and sculptor Bernard Rancillac. The Elephant Chair was originally designed in 1966 and exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1968. In 1985 a limited edition of 100 signed pieces was produced. This particular chair is marked as "Rancillac 37/100". As the name already suggests, the design of the chair is inspired by the shape of an elephant. The sculptural fiberglass seat is supported by a black-coated section steel frame, with a horseshoe-shaped foot. This statement piece would fit well in a mid-century modern interior, but also in a post-modern or even a space-age-inspired home.

Bernard Rancillac
Benard Rancillac was at a very early stage engaged with a critical re-appropriation of pop art’s figurative language. Abandoning informal and abstract painting in 1962, he became a pioneer of French figuration narrative, working from photographic images in magazines, advertisements, popular imagery and comic strips and reinterpreting them to highlight their political implications.

Blown-Up Chair by Schimmel
Schweikle, Netherlands, 2022
By Janne Schimmel
Located in Antwerp, BE
Blown-up chair by Schimmel & Schweikle, crafted from recycled plastic durable hard PU coating with brown peel structure.
Schimmel & Schweikle is an ongoing collaboration between Janne Schimmel and Moreno Schweikle. Their work revolves around the nexus of technology, art, and culture. In that realm, Schimmel & Schweikle focus on developing concepts that deal with the closing gap of the digital and physical realm. For their graduation project "Return to Default" in 2018, Moreno Schweikle and Janne Schimmel digitally manipulated the DNA of three standard office chairs, creating faintly familiar mutants. The ordinary desk chair became a three-seater sofa, and twelve office stools melted into a majestic lounge chair. This particular conference chair was blown up into an overstuffed version, showcasing the importance of recycling shapes in design. The off-size frame was 3D-printed, traditionally upholstered, and reintroduced into the office space.
