Empire Style French "Gondola" Chair Dedar Fabric

Particular and elegant chair with a solid and functional structure; the most interesting part of the chair is the elaborate and imaginative backrest with a harmonious and refined design; in the middle, there is precious woodwork, carved with skill and ability by a master cabinetmaker; the front legs have been meticulously turned to give them a light and proportionate shape, while the rear ones have a slightly curved square section; the seat top is removable and a wooden pin on the front crossbar allows the top itself to fit perfectly into its natural housing. The seat upholstery was replaced in ancient times and is in good condition (a bit of wear on the front, see photo) so we did not consider doing any restoration on the whole chair because its authentic look and slight imperfections make it really seductive and fascinating and attest its antiquity. He gave a personal and innovative touch to design by combining aestheticism and mass production. As a visionary designer, he knew how to create pieces of furniture with a functionalist approach and an aesthetic dimension. He really wanted to meet the needs of the times by using methods of the series production. His creations became mythic pieces such as the Tonneau chair (1953 and 1954), the Tulip chair (1953), and the President's desk (1961). Our chair was made in France in 1960 and recently retouched with Guild fabric.
