About the Item
A handsome pair of carved oak George III style chairs from the 18th century. Look closely to appreciate the elegantly carved splats on the seat back and how they emulate the silhouette of Corinthian columns. Like most chairs of the Georgian period, the drama of the seat backs is balanced with generous proportions of the actual seats, which in these examples widen at the front and are carved with a shallow dip for comfort. Legs are mostly square and straight contributing to the overall solidity of the design both in a structural and visual sense. Cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, please view the detailed images to see the current condition. Sold as a pair.
