About the Item
A Swedish Gustavian pair of carved and painted wood barrel back chairs, with lion's head accents, from the early 19th century. These antique chairs from Sweden each have rounded/barrel backs with upholstered backrests frame within a softly arched top rail that swoops down and terminates into lion's head embellishments at each arm post. Nice trim details are found about the perimeter of the seat back, down each arm post, and about the seat rail. There are floral medallions at each apron corner, just about the legs. The chairs are raised upon rounded legs at front with carved leaf wraps and fluting, and a pair of sabre style legs at rear. The paint is old and has some losses, but not likely original. The fabric is in useable condition. Arm height is approximately 28 inches from the floor. This pair of early 19th century Swedish Gustavian accent chairs will make a fabulous seating addition to your home or office.
