About the Item

Flemming Lassen (Danish, 1902–1984) A rare pair of chairs crafted in Cuban mahogany, featuring French-woven cane backs and seats upholstered in original Niger leather. Designed by Flemming Lassen and executed in 1938 by master cabinetmaker Jacob Kjær. The model was created for and presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1938 and is additionally documented in Flemming Lassen’s private photo scrapbook. A minor defect is present in the cane backing of one chair. This can be professionally restored, but we have chosen to preserve the chairs in their original, untouched condition. These are the only known existing examples, making them exceptionally rare pieces of Danish design history. Denmark, 1939 Flemming Lassen (1902–1984) was a pioneering Danish architect and designer associated with the early development of Danish modernism. Known for his sculptural forms, exceptional craftsmanship, and expressive use of natural materials, Lassen collaborated with some of the most influential Danish designers of his era, including his brother Mogens Lassen. His works—often produced in very limited numbers—are today considered highly collectible
