About the Item

A fabulous set of 4 plywood dining chairs 'Bivalve 940' designed by Gianni Moscatelli made in Italy ca 1955. These beautiful organic plywood dining chairs have an unusual but beautiful shape. As plywood furniture was rather new and experimental in the 50s a lot of designers and manufacturers were experimenting the possibilities of shapes in plywood. I guess in this design you can see how far they could go. As the entire chair is made of rather thin plywood and has a super dynamic shape. 2 Shells together compose the seating part where on the sides the legs are attached with beautiful custom-made screws. These chairs come directly from the designer’s home and therefor have an amazing provenance as well. The chairs are in black painted finish which has an original patina with some crackle and losses but still preserve their original look. The chairs are very nice in a set of 4 and we have one extra single chair available in another listing. Chairs are in a set of 4 and look amazing around a round dining table for example. Due to their modern shape and neutral finish these can easily match a modern home or interior. Priced and sold in a set of 4.

Augusto Bozzi Ariston dining chairs Saporiti Italy 1954
By Augusto Bozzi, Saporiti
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Highly rare and beautiful set of 6 so called ‘Ariston’ dining chairs designed by Augusto Bozzi and manufactured by Saporiti, Italy 1954. These chairs have a pressed plywood seat which is finished with teak veneer at the front and back, the black painted metal wire frame supports the seats. The structure provides stability and also a nice contrast with the deep coloured plywood seats. The seats are only connected to the base with 2 screws which are decoratively worked away in the seat, but these details also support the aesthetics of the design. This style was popular in the 1950s. Bozzi was one of the designers who gained credits for his designs during that period, putting Saporiti on the map and becoming one of the big players...
