About the Item

Set of six Alessia chairs with legs in tubular chromed metal and seats in white ABS, designed by Giotto Stoppino and manufactured by Driade in the 1970s. (Manufacturer's brand visible under the seats) Giotto Stoppino is one of the central figures of the Italian Neoliberty, he made himself knows at the 54 Triennale where he exhibited a series of innovative pieces realized in curved plywood, a clear inspiration come from the Scandinavian style which was very popular during the 1950s. Stoppino began a fruitful collaboration with Vittorio Gregotti and Lodovico Meneghetti who also decided to found a studio together based in Novara. From this collaboration, they give light innovative furniture such as lightweight cane armchairs produced by Bonacina in 1961. The 1970s were the years when Stoppino become popular for his metal pieces such as the 537 lamp for Arteluce also exhibited in the show 'Italy: the New Domestic Landscape'' at the MoMA in 1972.
