About the Item

Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi, set of six dining chairs, oak, Italy, 1970s An exceptional set of chairs by the Italian sculptor and designer Giuseppe Rivadossi. The chairs are architecturally built based on the assemblage of parts through sophisticated wood joints. The decorative aspect of the joints makes them not only necessary for the construction but also has a strong visual impact on the design itself. High quality oak has been used to construct the chairs, which has a fine warm tone. The backrest features a beautifully carved geometric element in the middle. It shows a faceted pattern composed of interlocking triangles and diamond shapes. This intricate carving adds depth and texture, further enhancing the chairs sculptural quality. Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he still lives and works. At a young age, Rivadossi's path begins with wood carving, with works reflecting on his poetic idea of living. In 1962, Rivadossi took over the carpentry founded in 1920 by his father Clemente, which he transformed into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. Eventually, Rivadossi and collaborators established 'Officina Rivadossi' in 1976 where he started the manufacture of wooden objects and unique modern furniture.

Set Of Six 1970s French Oak Brutalist Dining Chairs With Upholstered Seats
Located in High Point, NC
This set of six 1970s French oak Brutalist dining chairs presents a striking balance of sculptural form and honest craftsmanship. Defined by their strong ladder-back construction and rectilinear silhouettes, each chair emphasizes solid proportions and architectural clarity typical of the Brutalist movement. The richly toned oak frames display pronounced grain and a warm, natural patina that enhances their tactile presence. Upholstered seats in a neutral fabric soften the bold structure while providing comfortable support for everyday dining. Substantial legs and simple stretcher bases reinforce the chairs’ sturdy construction and utilitarian appeal. Graphic yet versatile, this cohesive set works beautifully in rustic, modern, or eclectic interiors, offering a confident statement at the dining table while celebrating the raw materials and functional design language of 1970s French Brutalist furniture.
