About the Item

The Harp Chair by Jørgen Høvelskov First designed in 1963, Jørgen Høvelskov’s legendary Harp Chair stands as one of the most striking masterpieces of Danish design. Produced by Christensen Larsen, this sculptural lounge chair is instantly recognizable by its dramatic, soaring silhouette and the tensioned flag halyard that gives the piece its poetic, string-like presence — a clear nod to the elegance of a musical instrument. Made from beautifully carved ash, the chair showcases the meticulous craftsmanship and organic forms that define the golden age of Scandinavian furniture design. The graceful curves, dynamic lines, and architectural tension make it as much an artwork as a functional piece of furniture. Despite its bold form, the Harp Chair is surprisingly inviting, offering a low and relaxed seating position that feels both timeless and modern.

Easy Chair by Jørgen Høj and Poul Kjærholm for Thorald Madsen, Denmark 1952
By Thorald Madsens Snedkeri, Jorgen Hoj, Poul Kjærholm
Located in Utrecht, NL
Designed in 1952 by Jørgen Høj and Poul Kjærholm for Thorald Madsen Cabinetmakers, this easy chair in ash and flag halyard is a true modernist masterpiece. Removing everything that was not strictly necessary for its shape and function, the designers created a geometrical and transparent work, that is subdued, yet attention drawing at the same time. The work was presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition at the Designmuseum Danmark in 1952, the only time Kjærholm participated in this event. Although the design was daring for its time, it was welcomed as a breath of fresh air at the exhibition. As a reviewer wrote at the time:? "The most ‘progressive’ interior… was no doubt the one made by architects Jørgen Høj and Poul Kjærholm in collaboration with Thorald Madsen. {…} One has to admit that it provided a refreshing change from the pervading solemnity. It is the duty of all exhibitions...
