About the Item

This is an absolutely wonderful Sgabello chair with fabulous carving including a stylized crown on top and a lion with wings holding a book as the off center focal point. Sometimes these stools (a chair with no arms was considered a stool) were made specifically for a customer and used elements from their family coat of arms so, all of the carvings on this chair could have had some significance to the original owner. The chair has some older repairs and has visible cracks including one in the front leg that has been stabilized but it is still sturdy, Sgabello were made to be hall chairs so did not have heavy use and it would be perfect for that again. It is 46 inches high to the top of the crown and 16 inches deep, the seat is 12 1/2 inches deep, 12 3/4 inches wide in the front and 11 inches wide in the back and 20 inches high. There is an identifying sticker on the bottom of the seat, I'm not sure if it is the maker or the retailer, I can't read it.
