About the Item

Philippe Starck Chaise Jane Paille, Ca. 1987 Edition Driade, Italie Bois teinté marron foncé, assise en papier tressé façon paille H. 89 x L. 66 x P. 63 cm H. 35 1/8 x W. 26 x D. 24 3/4 in Philippe Starck has always maintained an intimate dialogue with nature, which he considers not as a backdrop but as an intelligence to be listened to. For him, design must reduce its footprint, simplify uses, and respect resources. The forest thus becomes a model: balance, sobriety, silent efficiency. Starck draws on the plant world for essential forms, obvious structures, but also an ethic: to produce less, better, and more fairly. His objects seek accuracy rather than effect, sustainability rather than abundance. By advocating a concrete ecological approach, he questions our collective responsibility and reminds us that creating today means first and foremost preserving tomorrow, letting nature be our guide and reference point.

A chair designed by the most famous French creator for the then most famous French café: Café Costes in Paris. This stackable chair is solid and comfortable: the ideal chair for a café. Divised in close cooperation with Baleri Italia, the minimal and timeless lines of the Café Chair can elegantly match with all both public and private interiors and lifestyles. Philippe Starck, world famous creator with multifaceted inventiveness, is always focused on the essential, his vision: that creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. By employing his prolific work across all domains, from everyday products (furniture, a citrus-squeezer, electric bikes, an individual wind turbine), to architecture (hotels, restaurants that aspire to be stimulating places) and naval and spatial engineering (mega yachts, space habitation module), he continually pushes the boundaries and requirements of design, becoming one of the most visionary and renowned creators of the international contemporary scene. In 1984 and 1985, Philippe Starck collaborated with Baleri to create five pieces of furniture: Café Chair, Francesca Spanish, Richard III, Président M...
