About the Item
This handsome Louis Philippe side chair is crafted from walnut and leather, and features the rounded top rail and nipped in waist of the classic 'balloon back' style. Prized for its exceptional comfort, this style of chair became very popular in the 19th century, being both graceful and elegant as well as providing great support for the back. This wonderful example features a finely carved centre splat, deeply padded leather seat secured all round with a brass nailhead trim, as well as elegant turned, reeded and tapered legs at the front, with a plainer sabre style at the back. Both the wood components and the leather seat are nicely aged, with an authentic and natural warm patina.
