About the Item

A good pair of antique carved mahogany Georgian Regency country house hall chairs, circa 1825. The chairs are made of the finest solid mahogany, the backs are very well carved with rococo scrolls and each chair with having a shield carved in relief. The front legs are turned with long tapered balusters and the rear legs are of outswept sabre form. The chairs have the original finish and are in great condition, they are stable and robust and will accommodate the most substantial guest, these chairs are ready to grace your space.

Antique Italian Hand Carved Walnut Renaissance Dragon Knight Throne Chair 1880

A fine & remarkable carved walnut Renaissance Revival Italian Curule chair, carved with Dragons & Knights, circa 1880. The chair having a very finely carved top crest with a pair of winged dragons with their claws resting on a shield draped with a carved chain with a dragons tooth, the dragons flank a knight's helmet, to each side are 'grotesques' carved as the head of monks. The back having an upholstered head rest with stylized acanthus leaf carving with a carved mask to the center, the chair is upholstered in a high quality gold fabric with a scrolling leafy pattern. The curved arms terminate with carved dragon's claws resting on grotesque heads with ram's horns, the seat is of X-frame or Curule shape, the lower front of the seat having a carved knight's helmet flanked with a pair of halberds or battle axes. The curved legs joined with a 'H' frame stretcher with rounded stretcher bars carved with acanthus leaves, the chair is raised on substantial carved paw feet. Condition is excellent the chair is very sturdy & comfortable, the upholstery & fabric are in great condition, the chair exemplifies the carver's art & ability, this truly is a rare & spectacular carved antique Italian Renaissance Revival chair...
