Carlo Mollino (1905–1973). Pair of Cinema Chairs from the RAI Auditorium, Turin, 1951
Brass frame, newly upholstered in red velvet fabric by Maison Métaphores.
The seats are foldable, following the original design for the auditorium.
Condition: fully restored; brass with age-appropriate patina; upholstery and fabric renewed. Fabric: Métaphores, Sacre Coeur 71304 Brique 040
Provenance: Auditorium of the Radiotelevisione Italiana (RAI), Turin.
Designed in 1951, these cinema chairs exemplify Carlo Mollino’s distinctive balance of technical precision and expressive form. The sculptural brass structure combined with the vivid red velvet conveys the dramatic elegance characteristic of Mollino’s work and preserves the authentic atmosphere of the RAI Auditorium.
