About the Item
A pair of Eliel Saarinen armchairs for Imperial Rattan Company 1941. This stunning set of vintage armchairs are designed by world renowned Finnish designer and architect Eliel Saarinen. Eliel Saarinen was largely influential for his work with art deco/art nouveau architecture in large cities. His influence is felt through time, as his family became some of the biggest names in architecture and design throughout the entirety of the 20th century. These chairs have a wonderful mix of art deco and modern mid century design. The feature a full wood frame construction with a bright red fabric upholstery. They are plush and understated, with soft curves moving throughout the chair in the arms and legs. A lovely detail is the exposed wood frame connecting the arms to the backing. Both of these chairs are in good vintage condition, but do show some wear to the exposed wood which can be refinished for a cleaner look without patina. Each chair measures 29.5 inches tall, 22.5 inches wide, and 18 inches deep. They have a seat height of 19.5 inches, a seat depth of 15 inches, a seat width of 19 inches, and an arm height and back height of 11 inches.
