About the Item
Elegant pair of Louis XVI–style painted fauteuils, late 19th to early 20th century, each featuring a finely carved wooden frame adorned with classical motifs. The arched backs are surmounted by a floral and ribbon-carved crest, framed by twisted ribbon and pearl-bead borders, while the shaped armrests terminate in carved acanthus leaves. The seats are generously proportioned and rest on fluted, tapering legs with turned details.
The frames retain a softly nuanced pale lavender painted finish with subtle tonal variation, complementing the upholstered backs and seats. The refined neoclassical vocabulary—balanced proportions, crisp carving, and restrained ornament—reflects the enduring influence of the Louis XVI style in high-quality decorative seating produced for refined interiors. Unmarked.
