About the Item
Ultra-rare set of six original S24 dinning chairs designed by Pierre Chapo. These examples were imported from France in the 1960s. They feature original leather seats and gorgeous elmwood frames. We've sourced plenty of dinning chairs over the years, but the build quality of these chairs is second to none. Pierre Chapo’s design have been heavily inspired by works from from the Bauhaus period and designers like le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. By studying his pieces one thing clearly stands out: his focus on details, craftsmanship and the relatively bulky and rigid shapes used in his furniture.
Materials: French Elmwood, leather.
Origination: 1960s, France.
Condition: Good vintage condition, showing patina on wood and leather.

Pierre Chapo
Pierre Chapo, who was born in Paris, France, in July 1927, was initially interested in becoming a professional painter. However, after a chance meeting with a shipbuilder who introduced him to wood and woodworking, Chapo changed his focus and decided to study architectural studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
After graduating, Chapo and his wife, the sculptor and painter Nicole Lormier, started traveling extensively through Scandinavia and Central America. Among the many places the couple visited was Taliesin West, the home and studio of Frank Lloyd Wright — a visit that had a lasting influence on Chapo’s future work and designs.
