About the Item

Set of Four “Pégase” Chairs by Pierre Guariche, France, c. 1960s Graphic silhouettes in elm and black — modernist rigor with a quietly luxurious edge. This set of four “Pégase” chairs captures Pierre Guariche’s gift for translating pure geometry into inviting, everyday forms. The profiles are lean and architectural: gently raked backs, crisp seat lines and a precise junction of legs and frame that reads almost as drawing in space. In typical Guariche fashion, nothing is superfluous; every line serves structure, comfort, and proportion. The frames are executed in solid elm, a wood prized in mid-century France for its warm tone and expressive grain. Here it’s presented in a soft, natural finish that highlights the subtle movement of the timber while keeping the overall impression clean and disciplined. Seats and backs are upholstered in black vegan leather, bringing a taut, graphic contrast to the elm and echoing the monochrome restraint of Guariche’s best work. The material offers the visual depth of traditional leather with a contemporary, cruelty-free composition. Seen together, the four chairs form a coherent ensemble — identical yet never static, their slightly splayed legs and angled backs creating a sense of forward motion that lives up to the “Pégase” name. Around a dining table, at a desk, or flanking a console, they bring a distinctly French modernist authority without overpowering the room. Their light visual footprint and supportive ergonomics make them as practical as they are collectible. In excellent restored condition, the elm frames are sound and tight, with minor traces of age retained to preserve character. The new vegan leather upholstery is fresh and ready for daily use. Available for private acquisition as a complete set of four. For detailed dimensions, placement consultation, or collector inquiries, please contact our specialists.

Set of Four High-Back Chairs in Walnut and Mustard Wool, France, 1970s
Located in Kaštel Sućurac, Splitsko-dalmatinska županija
With their totemic posture and rigorous symmetry, this set of four high-back chairs appears as a quiet procession—monolithic yet supple, sculptural yet humane. The pronounced verticality of the backrests is softened by an inset wool panel in ochre-mustard, whose central stripe seems to ripple down the spine like a textile column of light. Attributed to a French atelier working in the spirit of postwar modernism, the chairs embody a Brutalist elegance. Their silhouettes suggest both the ecclesiastical and the architectural—recalling the austerity of monastery furniture...
