This striking high-back sculptural chair evokes the spirit of Gerrit Rietveld and the De Stijl movement, with its strong geometric forms, bold contrast of black and white, and architectural presence. Designed as much an object of art as a piece of furniture, the chair features a tall rectilinear back, a circular seat, and a base punctuated with cut-out windows that add depth and play of light.
The design recalls Rietveld’s radical approach to furniture as three-dimensional composition, where planes and lines intersect to create a spatial experience. While clearly influenced by the purity of early modernism, the piece also reflects the expressive tendencies of 1980s postmodern design.
