About the Item

The set of four Quinta chairs, designed by renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta for the Italian company Alias in 1985, is an icon of Italian postmodern design. These chairs, which fully embody Botta's geometric and architectural style—influenced by masters such as Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, and Carlo Scarpa—are more than just furnishings: they are true "architecture for seating," with forms that evoke the spatial volumes of his buildings, such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Each chair is constructed with a minimalist and robust structure, combining industrial and sculptural elements. The supporting structure is composed of black (or black-painted) steel tubes, arranged to create a curved and asymmetrical frame, with front legs slightly angled outward for greater stability and a sense of dynamism. The seat and backrest are made of micro-perforated and folded steel sheets, giving them a perforated and lightweight appearance despite the solidity of the material. This perforation isn't just aesthetic: it allows the metal to naturally flex, offering unexpected comfort when sitting or leaning, without the need for padding. The typical dimensions of a Quinta chair are approximate: total height around 80-85 cm, width 50-55 cm, and depth 50 cm, making them suitable for homes, offices, or exhibition spaces. These chairs are exhibited in prestigious museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, a testament to their historical and artistic value. Today, as discontinued pieces, they are sought after by collectors for their balance of functionality and sculptural aesthetics, perfect for contemporary or eclectic environments.
