An Extremely Attractive Early 19th Century, Georgian, Matched Set Of 10, Ash And Elm, Farmhouse Kitchen Dining Chairs Having Rare Ears To Shaped Top Rail Of Double Row Spindlebacks, Over Rushed Seats Raised On Elegant Turned Legs And Stretchers. Most designs of ladderback, or spindleback armchairs which were made in the 18th and 19th centuries can be referenced to a particular area of the United Kingdom as they nearly always had individual design quirks. These are no different, the spindleback design with protruding earpieces generally being regarded as originating from Cheshire. Something else we like about this particular set of dining chairs is that they are genuinely Georgian, Early 19th Century, and therefore have some real character, lustre, patina and various other signs of life and use unlike so many late 19th, or even early 20th century examples which can be found on the market these days. Naturally this has resulted in various nicks, digs, scrapes and slices, but nothing that causes any issues with aither the aesthetics or the structural integrity of the chairs. Overall they are in great functional condition. Ready to be placed immediately around a farmhouse dining table and put straight into use. The rush seats all appear to be in good order, clearly they have been re-rushed at some stage in the not too distant past and therefore shouldn’t require doing again in the immediate future. As is just about always the case with english country chairs, these chairs are a harlequin, or matched set, therefore there are various minor design differences from one chair to another and a few variations in the overall heights of the backs. Actually though match each other much better than the majority of sets which we have seen before. We have ensured we quote the measurements of the tallest chairs in case thats important to you. As with all items which we offer for sale they have also been attended to in our workshops by our trained traditional antique furniture restorers to ensure they are in their best condition possible before being offered for sale, including a lovely natural wax polish finish. Perfect for either a rustic kitchen in a country home, or indeed a relatively formal setting in an english townhouse these chairs have incredible versatility and great value for money. Circa 1820. An Extremely Charming Set Of Six Mid 18th Century, Georgian, Chippendale Period, Solid Walnut Country House Type Dining Chairs, Having Very Attractive Pierced Splat Backs With Scrolling Top Rails Over Upholstered Drop In Seats Raised On Square Chamfered Legs And Stretchers, Retaining Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout. This lovely set of 18th century country house type dining chairs are a purists dream. They retain a wonderful colour and surface to the walnut timbers and have clearly been well loved and looked after throughout their lives. Stylistically they have a slighty more formal feel to them than many sets of country dining chairs, although there is no doubt whatsoever that they retain that sought after english country furniture charm. The seat upholstery is in reasonable condition, more than acceptable for something that we would imagine has been in place for around 50 or 60 years perhaps. There are however a few old marks, scuffs and minor stains to the upholstery, so the ease and relative inexpense of reupholstering 6 drop in seats is another added plus point.
