This set of two Dordogne chairs were designed by Charlotte Perriand and executed by Robert Sentou in the 1960s in France. These chairs features ash wooden frames and has beautifully woven straw seats and backs. Pure natural elegance and artisanal craftsmanship with clean and minimalist lines. This pair is in very good conditions with only small signs of use.
Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999), a key figure of European modernism, famously started her career with a rebuff from Le Corbusier’s studio. Her career flourished and her aesthetic shifted from metal to using wood and cane, inspired by travels to Japan in the 1940s. She left Japan wanting to strengthen the relationship between humanity and nature within the home.
The "Dordogne" chair wascreated by Charlotte Perriand for the "Les Arcs" winter sports resort in the French Alps during the 1960-70s. It was Robert Sentou (1922-2008), that Charlotte Perriand called on to produce the chairs and armchairs for winter sports resorts.
