About the Item

France / 1950 / set of 4 chairs / Tolix / model A / metal / industrial / mid-century / vintage Set of 4 vintage Tolix chairs with original green lacquer, made in France around 1950. Created in 1927 by Xavier Pauchard. This set of iconic stackable metal chairs had beautiful patina on the metal. The chairs are a good choice for both indoor and outdoor settings. The metal construction ensures long-lasting use and the timeless and ergonomic design of the chairs ensures optimal comfort. Created in 1927 by Xavier Pauchard, TOLIX's authentic A chair is an icon of industrial design. It is part of the collections in the Vitra Museum, Moma, Pompidou Center as well as in the renowned architect Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye. Pauchard discovered that he could protect sheet metal from rusting by dipping it in molten zinc (galvanisation) and a few years later he set up his factory producing steel furniture. Tolix was the creator and founder of perhaps the most iconic cafe chairs of all time.
