About the Item

Set of 6 Foemina chairs designed by Augusto Betti. The Foemina chair is Betti’s first design object. “These chairs were made to give my students an example of how new shapes can be created by following the possibilities suggested by new materials. A plastic chair does not have to be like a wooden chair, as these two materials have completely different technical characteristics. For a wooden chair (which can be solid) it is normal to have four legs. Resin, which can be laminated and reinforced to be strong even at very thin thicknesses, is more suitable for covering shapes. A resin chair with four legs is a false chair and is also usually not very stable”. – Augusto Betti Bibliography Franco Bertoni (curated by), “Augusto Betti. Forme della vita”, exhibition catalogue, Edit Faenza, 2001 p. 115, 124

Augusto Bozzi Ariston dining chairs Saporiti Italy 1954
By Augusto Bozzi, Saporiti
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Highly rare and beautiful set of 6 so called ‘Ariston’ dining chairs designed by Augusto Bozzi and manufactured by Saporiti, Italy 1954. These chairs have a pressed plywood seat which is finished with teak veneer at the front and back, the black painted metal wire frame supports the seats. The structure provides stability and also a nice contrast with the deep coloured plywood seats. The seats are only connected to the base with 2 screws which are decoratively worked away in the seat, but these details also support the aesthetics of the design. This style was popular in the 1950s. Bozzi was one of the designers who gained credits for his designs during that period, putting Saporiti on the map and becoming one of the big players...
