About the Item

The Cane Chair was designed in 1952 by Jacob Ruchti and produced by Branco Preto, an architecture and design firm that opened in 1952 in São Paulo. Branco Preto was one of Brazil's forerunners of interior architecture and modern furniture. The dining chair has a structure in solid Rosewood with a natural plaited cane in the seat and backrest. The chairs have rounded turned shapes and fantastic fittings. The studio was managed by the architects Miguel Forte (1915-2002), Jacob Ruchti (1917-1974), Plínio Croce (1921-1984), Roberta Aflalo (1926-1992), Carlos Millan (1927-1964), and Chinese architect Chen Y Hwa. It operated for approximately ten years and marked the history of Brazilian design, becoming a reference for architects at the time – who visited the studio to learn about trends and discuss ideas. This piece is in very good original condition. There are manufacture stamps from Luiz Passaro, the workshop that produced some furniture pieces for Branco Preto. Wood and cane restoration services are included in the acquisition price, and the deadline for carrying out the procedures varies according to each case.
