About the Item

This exceptional set of Regency chairs, dating to circa 1810, embodies the elegance and craftsmanship of the period. Expertly crafted in beech to resemble rosewood, each chair features beautifully carved front splayed sabre (saber) legs and raised hip rails, designed to support custom-made upholstered squab seat cushions. The captivating hand-woven cane (hand-caned) seats not only enhance comfort but also highlight the delicate artistry of the era. What truly sets these chairs apart are cresting rails (crest rails) inlaid with scrolling foliate brass above a shaped horizontal back rail centered by a carved shell, with scrolled supports intricately designed to evoke swirling acanthus leaves and vines. This complex brass inlay on the scroll cresting rail (also known as a crest rail) with scrolled ears is a hallmark of higher-grade Regency work and was more expensive to produce. This detail signaled fashionable, French‑influenced taste and typically sat above plainer, undecorated models in the original market. This set is not just furniture; it’s an invitation to entertain in style with a piece of history to admire. Perfect for collectors and lovers of Regency furniture. Cushions are not included. Each: H=31 in. W=18 in. D=20.5 in. 12 lbs. Seat: H=15 in. W=17 in. D=13 in.
