About the Item

Two rare fabric and fiberglass easy chairs in very good condition. These chairs are designed by Alberto Rosselli in 1971 and manufactured by Saporiti in Besnate, Italy The chairs feature a black lacquered fiberglass shell base with a hollow backside. The base is covered with two fabric cushions. Four chromed feet support the base which give the chairs a sleek look. Originally published in Domus magazine (No. 500, July 1971, p. 73), the design reflects the era's futuristic optimism and Rosselli’s pursuit of functional elegance. With their low and deep seating, these chairs remain both visually striking and exceptionally inviting. The chairs were professionally reupholstered with a beautiful high-end green ‘Yeti' fabric by Pierre Frey Paris. This very beautiful plain weave of wool, mohair and long-haired alpaca has been created in a reworked seventies spirit and woven in the Pierre Frey workshops in northern France. COMPOSITION 61 % Wool 15 % Mohair 14 % Alpaca 10 % Polyamide Alberto Rosselli (1921–1976) Alberto Rosselli was a pioneering Italian architect and designer known for his innovative use of industrial materials and forward-thinking furniture design. A close collaborator of Gio Ponti, he co-founded Studio Ponti-Fornaroli-Rosselli and played a key role in shaping postwar Italian modernism. His work combined comfort, modularity, and a futuristic aesthetic, and was widely published, including in Domus magazine, where he also briefly served as editor. Rosselli's legacy continues to influence contemporary design through his bold integration of technology and form. Saporiti Italia Innovation and Italian Design Since 1950 Founded in the 1950s by Sergio Saporiti, Saporiti Italia quickly gained international recognition for its bold, avant-garde approach to furniture design. Based in Besnate, near Milan, the company became a leading force in the postwar Italian design movement, known for its commitment to technological experimentation, high-quality materials, and collaborations with visionary designers. Working with talents such as Alberto Rosselli, Giovanni Offredi, and Kazuhide Takahama, Saporiti produced some of the most iconic and collectible pieces of the 20th century. The brand is especially noted for introducing modular seating systems and pioneering the use of innovative materials like injected polyurethane foam, metal alloys, and high-performance plastics. With a strong presence in design publications and exhibitions throughout the 1960s and ’70s, Saporiti helped define the aesthetics of modern living—minimalist, functional, and architecturally inspired. Today, Saporiti remains a symbol of Italian excellence, blending design heritage with contemporary innovation across residential, contract, and custom architectural projects worldwide.
