About the Item

Set of six chairs in curved and stained beech wood in the Thonet or Kohn style. The seats are cane and in good condition. The backrest and seat structure are made from a single piece of wood that has been curved. The crossbars under the seat also feature a beautiful, supple movement for what was originally a straight piece of wood, a real technical feat! The front legs are finished with a rounded shape like water droplets. The art of bent wood was born in Europe with the Thonet factory in Germany in the mid-19th century. Other manufacturers followed suit, such as Fischel and Kohn, and enjoyed great success in the early 20th century. This model has not yet been attributed to a particular manufacturer, but it is an exceptional piece of work, both technical and aesthetic, reflecting the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. These chairs would look great around a dining table or in bedrooms, for example. They are particularly light but very sturdy and stable, even after around a century of use!
