About the Item
DESIGN STATEMENT:
The Tenda chair embodies tension as a creative principle. A rod, attached to another, stretches the upholstery, shaping a light, refined design. This tension-driven approach—where forces move in opposite yet aligned directions—reflects the logic seen in large-scale tensioned fabric structures. Tenda’s tubular steel frame, assembled in a simple Cartesian fashion, fulfills its role subtly, allowing the seat to take the spotlight. This chair is just the beginning of a collection that will soon feature an armchair and high stool, continuing the theme of structural elegance and functional simplicity.
IDEA:
The briefing for this product called for a lightweight, delicately designed chair, suited for dining tables or commercial spaces. The assembly of the structure with straight tubes ensures a straightforward, cost-controlled build, placing emphasis on the upholstery. With significant customization options, this chair can feature various material combinations, like specific leather and fabric, tailored to specific uses. This flexibility, combined with a simple, unadorned design, makes the chair an ideal choice for large-scale projects, offering both reduced costs and swift lead times.
FORM:
The straight, Cartesian structure defines the form of the upholstery, which is drawn back by a metal rod held in place by a leather strap. This fabric tensioning—much like that in a circus tent—serves as the inspiration behind the chair's assembly. Making this structural solution visible to the user creates a unique connection between the product and its user, as the design evokes familiar, everyday scenarios in an unexpected way.
FUNCTION:
Perfect ergonomics were central to the Tenda chair's design. Despite its slim profile, it ensures lasting comfort with supportive backrest angles and spacious seating. Its versatile design fits equally well in dining rooms, large auditoriums, or food courts.
Engineered for high industrialization, the chair can be produced efficiently and cost-effectively, with the added advantage of easily interchangeable finishes to adapt to different settings and styles.
DIFFERENTIATION:
The Tenda chair’s initially understated design quickly captivates with its unique tensioned seat solution. Lightweight and easily movable, it adapts seamlessly from large events to intimate settings like dining or meeting rooms. Its high degree of customization makes it perfect for projects where colors, textures, and materials play a defining role, allowing for monochromatic looks or striking contrasts. Created for a brand renowned for its expertise in metal and leather, the Tenda chair reflects a strong synergy between designer and manufacturer, highlighting their shared identity.
SUSTAINABILITY:
A chair that uses minimal materials yet offers a scalable solution—this design focuses on low costs, optimized production, and controlled material use, as the exposed structure requires no hidden screws or straps. Its lightweight build and Cartesian form simplify packaging and shipping, streamlining logistics. This straightforward design allows for manufacturing in multiple regions, reducing customs and logistical expenses while supporting local economies across different areas.
