About the Item

Set of restored 'Bossche School (1946-1973)' chairs. That came from the contents of a Monastery in Brabant, The Netherlands. Probably Alter chairs. The 'Bossche School' is a traditionalist movement in Dutch architecture, based on the ideas of Dom Hans van der Laan, in which space and balanced proportions play an important role. This style takes its name from the three-year 'Ecclesiastical Architecture Course' that was given in ‘s hertogenBOSCH, so to begin a reconstruction period, for the restoration of all churches and monastries, that were destroyed in the Netherlands during the Second World War. With this reconstruction came furniture, for these buildings, that was also designed by these architects. An important characteristic of 'the Bossche School' is its sober, plain simple design. This set is made of thick American pine on a heavy steel base. Wood and base have some minor wear. Solid construction.
