About the Item

Typist Chair “Synthesis 45” Designed by Ettore Sottsass for Olivetti, Italy – 1970s Beginning in the 1970s, Ettore Sottsass developed an innovative and integrated system of office furniture and equipment for Olivetti. The iconic Synthesis 45 collection included desks, chairs, armchairs, filing cabinets, storage units, and an extensive range of accessories. Characterized by functional design and a modern aesthetic, the series combines neutral tones with vibrant accents—exemplified by the striking yellow frame of this adjustable typist chair. This particular model is unquestionably the rarest and most sought-after piece of the Synthesis 45 series. Restored to its original specifications, it is now in excellent condition. A testament to its design significance, this chair is also part of the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
