Victorian Carved Walnut Side Chair, England circa 1860
An elegant mid-19th century English side chair in carved walnut.
The tall, waisted back features scrollwork to the crest and shoulders, framing an upholstered panel with original show wood border. The seat is generously proportioned and set above a shaped apron with carved detail. Raised on carved cabriole front legs with ceramic castors, and swept back legs.
Traditionally referred to as a nursing chair, this piece now makes a versatile occasional or bedroom chair. The walnut frame shows attractive colour and fine carving throughout. Upholstery in good order. Some age-appropriate wear and a historic repair to one joint, professionally restored.
